The Peconic Puffin

A blog about a group of windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts, and their friends. Established 1993.

John V proclaimed “This is a first!” On the east end, east wind usually means windsurfing the ocean at Ponquogue or the Bowl. But the early birds proclaimed the Bowl “a mess” and divined the hitherto untested-in-East-Wind South Jamesport. And they was right.

As on southerlies, the ramps were best at low tide, though the eastern blow probably helped kill off the big ones prematurely as the bay filled. Still, it was a fine June session for those who caught it (including John V, Jonathan, Jason, and Peconic Jeff. George Pav and Joe arrived as the wind was dieing, as did Scott (just to say hi as his arm is on the mend.

South Jamesport…it’s not just for southerlies anymore.

Okay, JEFF knew! The Long Island Windsurfing Map is the work of many contributors. I’ve read all the entries (I think) but memorize them I have not. Jeff added South Jamesport. In any event, John and Jon said sailing SJ on an easterly was unprecedented, and I liked the sound of it it.
Should I change the headline to:
“South Jamesport on East…Who Knew? Jeff, Apparently”?
