The Peconic Puffin

A blog about a group of windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts, and their friends. Established 1993.

What do you do when oncoming ramps are five feet apart (and of course the good one is never first)? Today on the Little Peconic the psychochop made windsurfing an excercise in having your bones rattled, as Slo, Sally and I tried to make the best of 18-20 knots. I tried pre-jumping early ramps to get better position for the steeper chop, but there just weren’t enough fractions of a second to really wind up the board. At least Slo had the maiden voyage of his new Fanatic Skate. We were sailing about an hour after low tide, with the incoming tide moving against the wind.

After 90 minutes, Sally and I headed to Mecox. I’d like to try the Little Peconic launching from Bittersweet Lane and see if the chop is more organized on southwest winds. If it isn’t, then South Jamesport is top of the list.

Chop? What chop? Pork Chop? Chop suey?
I’ve seen chops at the butcher bigger than those chops. We have haystacks on the bay, and we all know that horses love hay. ; )

Joe, when it comes to chop, size isn’t the only thing that matters!
Your cruel and heartless criticism of my chopless photo has driven my poor wife to ask me to take it down. I explained that as editor of the Peconic Puffin I must maintain journalistic integrity! She begged.
I am not a heartless man. So I have removed the photo. But it was still blowing 20 knots and the chop was hectic, spaced WAY too close together.
Would have liked to see you sailing in your Sunfish yesterday…

Hey, what happened to the photo? I’m not
cruel or heartless…unless you work for me, then I crack the whip. Please convey my apologies to your wife.
    Sunfish!!!!!!!
Repeat after me, “Force 5.” They’re
made in your neck of the woods.
Photo of a Sunfish and a Force 5 to appear
    shortly on my blog.
