A personal day. A mental health day. A “be kind to your sinkers” day. Don’t you deserve it? Just be sure to work very hard on Friday to compensate.

I just moved out to the north fork, Southold, specifically, and was wondering where you typically launch from at New Suffolk. And, sadly, I missed the wind today but I disnt miss the text messages from friends giving me the wind play by play while rain was pelting into thier eyes.

We take New Suffolk Avenue to the light (I think it’s 5th street) and turn right. You need to park against the hedges on either side of this narrow road. I am not a New Suffolk expert, but I’d like to note few things:
1. The homeowner on the right can be testy (I’m told), so parking “behind” that property is a good idea.
2. Parking permits may be necessary…I don’t know (though we’ve never had a problem).
3. Rig on the street. The grassy area that comprises the walk down to the beach is where all the locals walk their dogs. This launch has been referred to as “Dog Sh*t Beach”.
4. Because of the testy neighbor to the west, and the limited beach space for the residents, it’s good to bend over backwards to not take up prime beach space with your gear, to launch and land politely, and to be courteous and friendly to everyone you run into there.
5. Watch out for boat traffic coming through the channel.
I hope we see you there the next time conditions warrant!
