Straight up:

Sail Demo.
Sail Hatteras (ocean side).
Jumps (better control and height on port, any jumps at all on starboard.)
More sessions with my wife.
Improve on freestyle.

Here’s a quick look at how I did on last year’s resolutions:

1.  Learn to ride waves.   Success!   Not that I’m the slightest bit good at it, but I’m well past counting how many bottom turns or cutbacks I’ve ever performed (a year ago I could count them on one hand) and once I was even described as being radical.  (“Radical for you, Michael,” was the exact quote, but I’ll take it.)

2.  Sail more mid-island sessions.   While the East Coast Windsurfing Festival was great fun at Hecksher, Hecksher is almost all of what I saw of the mis-island spots.    Though I did get one wild day at West Meadow (I’d like to have more) and if we’re simply talking about new spots sailed on Long Island, I also got my first taste of Ditch Plains (more please.)   But the lack of a Demo session leaves me feeling that I failed on this resolution.

3.   Get 20 feet of air (and land it).   Didn’t happen.  Though I’ve improved some,  I still have a ways to go in terms of skill and altitude.

4.   Sail the ocean in Hatteras.    Didn’t happen.  Went to OBX, didn’t get the conditions.

5.   More sailing time with my wife.    Didn’t happen, though I blame the poor winds of 2008.   We did get a nice session at Napeague with some friends, which featured her first Long Island jibes, though!

    Be careful!!!!!
Once you sail Demo you’ll never go back(that is any where else),
    especially on a NE.

For your 2009 Hatteras Oceanside resolution, I suggest signing up for the 2nd annual Hatteras Wave Fest. It’s not officially scheduled yet but the last week of Sep through first two weeks of Oct is the window. In 2008 the local guys were awesome instructors and cheerleaders encouraging a bunch of us to wave sail in conditions I never would have sailed in before : too light, too windy, wrong break, wrong wind direction, etc. Bill Bell of Bill’s OBX Beach Life is the coordinator. BTW there is also a loopfest slated for late May early June with most of the action being on the ocean side. Good Luck with your resolutions!
