The Peconic Puffin

A blog about a group of windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts, and their friends. Established 1993.

Item:  A clammer found himself in a jam in Old Fort Pond when, lost in the fog, his waders filled with water.  Yelling for help, he attracted the attention of stand up paddler Christine Brennan, who heard him from shore, grabbed her board, and paddled out to get him.  Yeah Christine!

Item:   If you’d like to try stand up paddling (or check out the new line of Starboard SUP boards) Hampton Watersports will have a free demo at Cold Spring on Saturday (May 28th) from 10 until 2.  I haven’t tried the line myself, but I greatly admired the board Frank was paddling at his SUP surfing initiation a few weeks ago.

Item:  It seems (and statistics verify) that I’m getting very little water time this year, so yesterday morning’s quick SUP sesh at Cryder with the Wolf and Jon Ford was a treat.  4-5 foot waves ran long and clean, and plenty of lefts and rights were had (I saw a single wave jack up to six feet, down which the Wolf took a heck of a steep drop.  T’was sweet!)

Meanwhile I haven’t windsurfed since April.

I know the feeling well about not windsurfing for a heck of a long time. This year has been the worst year any of us can remember. Having said that I windsurfed 5 days out of 8 in the last week or so. If summer can be like that then I won’t complain about the bad winter!

I know what you mean about not sailing also. I hadn’t been out in 3 weeks myself, so went out in 0-7 knots yesterday just to be able to stand on a board while holding a sail.
