The Peconic Puffin

A blog about a group of windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts, and their friends. Established 1993.

Hydrofoil windsurfingThere he is, wearing a shorty, hovering over the water as he windsurfs a foil on the Pamlico Sound.   Mike Burns does it all, with a smaller sail and in warmer conditions that I ever do/rig/get.  To quote Frank Messina:  We all hate him.

This is worse than when he learned the leopard loop.

I didn’t say he was bad. I said I have 341 reasons to hate him. That’s a lot of reasons.
So that’s a foil with a trimbox adapter?
    🙂

    Haha!!!! You guys are funny!!!
Fact 1: foiling will be the most fun you’ve had on a windsurfer since you got planing for the first time.
Fact 2: It can happen in 5 knots

And to answer the box question. Any board with a deep tuttle will do.

Later model larger Bics have deep tuttles. Acquired a 148 for just such use. LP in the Gorge do a regular tuttle, too. Windance has an adapter for tuttle and powerbox.
I can’t make mine with a 7.0 go in 5 knots but it is pretty close to replacing the Formula/9.5 combo that is my warm weather bread and butter. When I’m not crashing every two seconds I’ll try something larger.
I’ve only done a few skips and jumps but it positively addicting and puts you back at the beginning of the learning curve.
