The Peconic Puffin

A blog about a group of windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts, and their friends. Established 1993.

I’m neither a surfer nor a big Laird Hamilton fan, but does this guy ever do extraordinary things in conditions that can only be considered Epic.

The clip above was edited together by Agent Smith , who writes: “In this video Laird faces one of the most significant waves of his life, at the legendary wave break in Tahiti named ‘Teahupoo’, which in Tahitian means, “End of the Road”. Monster waves are also featured in Lairds home break, in Maui, named ‘Piahi’ meaning “The Beacon”, or affectionately known as ‘Jaws’. The copulation of clips I set to the music of “Touched” by: ‘Vast’”

In far humbler water video news, I have acquired a waterproof video camera, and will be attaching it to various booms and helmets to see what kind of footage it might capture. Stay tuned…

Well…………..Laird is……..Laird! How about that for an intelligent comment! Any footage I have seen of him is impressive.

You’d think Laird could have bottom turned or kicked out instead of blocking the way of the windsurfer (Sierra Emory?). Maybe he expected the guy to turn in front of him, but that dude ate it. I guess those are the ways of surf royalty….

In waves that big I’ve got to wonder how well their peripheral vision and though is working. Laird has always seemed extremely focused on Laird, however, so you may have a point.
