The Peconic Puffin

This spring, Peconic Jeff invited the editor of The Peconic Puffin to a beautiful sailing spot on Peconic waters. But he forebade the Puffin from adding the spot to the Long Island Windsurfing Map and swore us to secrecy.

The Puffin has kept troth with the oath. (Sailing superstitions and all that…)

But now Jeff has revealed the spot! In a post on iWindsurf.com Jeff calls attention to Red Cedar Point! And then he links to a map he’s made of the waters!

195794210_9084d38ac9_2By all standards of Long Island windsurfing journalism the Puffin should now be free to add Red Cedar Point to the map.

But we swore an oath. And as I already borrow liberally (steal) from Jeff’s photo collections, I decided to ask him. He has released me from my vow of secrecy, and so RCP is now on the map. But be warned: There are no legitimate ways to get to Red Cedar Point by land. You must sail to it. X marks the spot…

Yohoho
(Top photo: Jeff gives the thumbs up to reveal Red Cedar Point, as he sails to its secret shore.
Middle photo: Back when it was a secret, a stowaway managed to get on Jeff’s board. We fear the young lass was forced to walk the plank.
Bottom photo: The skull and crossbones, as displayed on the editor’s wave board. We take our sailing oaths seriously.)

Damn it! Why are the good spots so far away from me? Life ain’t fair.

Ain’t nuthin’ fair on the water, ‘cept the site of a well-trimmed sail flying off into the sunset.
Meanwhile, you’re in the Bay Area…you’ve got plenty of places to rip! Methinks you’re spending too much time tending to pigs and cows and horses and fish.

The water is a tad bit warmer where you are, if I went without a wet suit I would be dead after 15 minutes. El agua aqui es mu frio! That translates to BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I know the Mark Twain quote about his coldest winter being “summer in San Francisco.” And you get more of “the landlord,” “the man in the grey suit,” and fish. But back to your point about cold…<a href=”http://www.peconicpuffin.com/the_peconic_puffin/2007/03/winter_windsurf.html”target=Blank”>this cold?

I don’t know why you guys even bother. Give it up.

Gosh gee, Maui Frank, …I would love to check out your website but I can’t as it doesn’t seem to be working! So this poor Long Islander is left to contemplate his Mauiless predicament uninformed.
But you’re always welcome at The Peconic Puffin!
P.S LOVE Maui…only been there once, for 19 glorious days. Just give me a small board, a 5.0, and the Ahi special at the Fishmarket.
