The Wolf Shreds Bellport on his Ice Yacht

The Wolf caught an ice session last week at Bellport.  "Great conditions," he told The Peconic Puffin.  Your editor has only ice-windsurfed once (two years ago at Cold Spring Pond) where he got to try out the Wolf's ice yacht, which features a large friendly deck, and brakes!  (Details on the Wolf's ride and that session here.)    Meanwhile how beautiful does the ice look at sunset below?

    The weird thing about ice sailing pictures is that you can’t tell if someone is going 100 miles an hour or just standing there, because there’s no spray or wake.

    We got some ice sailing in on cape cod this past weekend. There are a couple of freeskates here. A few of us have home made boards with a plywood deck and wide or modified skate board trucks. Riding the ice is great for fast jibes, duck jibes and laydown 360. I have seen some videos of airel flakas but not trying that.

    Peter, how well do the homemade boards work? And what are you using for blades? It would be great if you posted some photos online of your homemade ice gear.

    The home made boards work really well. The deck is not as big as a free skate. ABout 4′ long and 12 =15″ wide. A wide skate board truck is good. or you can also use a mountian board. Blades are 1/4″x2″ steel about 10-12″ long. We hand grind them to a v. The sand smooth with 320 of finer grit.
    I can take a photo tonight and will post some where accessable.
