The Peconic Puffin

A blog about a group of windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts, and their friends. Established 1993.

After some time away from it, I always forget how enjoyable
it is to windsurf on Mecox Bay.    Shallow, enclosed, tame…if you just want to
hook in, lean back and relax, this is the place.   Want to work on your jibes or freestyle?    Mecox is a fine spot.   Just imagine Lac Bay in Bonaire, but two feet deeper, darker water, less dependable wind, but when it's blowing its just as inviting.

Yc Saturday found me and a
pair of OG Puffins (and ladies to boot!
My wife Sally and Eileen) sailing from the Yacht Club…me on a 6.2,
Sally on a 5.3, Eileen making a go of it on her 5.0.   The wind was up and down, but during the Ups I played
with 360’s and push tacks and duck jibes,
and Sally managed her first jibe of the year whilst Eileen was sailing
the length of the bay.
The day was no great shakes, but it was warm and sunny, it was S &
E’s first session of the year, and we were glad we jumped on it ‘cause the rest
of the weekend we were shut out.

I’ll be returning to Mecox ASAP.
