I like the way Swell Info indicates wave heights using parts of the body – knee, waist, shoulder and so on. But I don’t see “big ass” on the chart.
If it were, would “big ass” be between knee and waist?

Excellent question Lord T. In the watersports realm in which I partake, the “ass” refers to one’s own (when following words like “wild” “big” “crazy” etc). You’ll note that Swell Info already uses color to indicate another variable (surface condition). It would be nice if they ran an ass factor above the wave height, which would take into account the overall wind and wave and water state factors, to let us know just how soundly we will be humiliated.

I actually discovered Swell Info today before I saw your post because some friends and I have been doing some wave sailing in Lasers in RI over the last few weeks and I was wondering what sort of waves Arthur might generate for us.
I am definitely going to start thinking of waves as”chest” or “o-head” or “big ass” in future. Hoping to get some “chest’ early next week.

Is ass factor geographically scaled? I feel like Big-ass here may be different. Are all asses equal? Do we not all have one?

R-head, of course all asses are not equal. And yesterday I saw someone in the checkout line at Trader Joe’s who in fact had no ass at all. As for geographic scaling, certainly what constitutes a big-ass day at Mavericks or Hookipa is different than in Greater Puffindom. We must meditate on these things, and then rig.

If I go sailing with a female Laser sailor am I allowed to greet her by saying, “This looks like a big-ass day”?

    If you’re wearing a helmet.

Is it OK if I prefer small-ass waves? 😉 Not as flexible or as good a swimmer as I once was.
    Respect the hold-down.
